Our activities include:

1

Working with airport stakeholders to develop and adopt system-level automation solutions.

2

Supporting proof-of-concept trials and test-bedding efforts in actual airport operating conditions.

3

Engaging international partners to adopt and scale proven solutions to global airports.

Airport Experimentation Platform

Airport Experimentation Platform

The Airport Experimentation Platform supports research and development in airport operations through the following key activities:

  • Work with airport stakeholders to develop an Airport Experimentation Platform to support R&D on Total Airport Management (TAM).
  • Conduct airport-wide system and process mapping.
  • Identify system bottlenecks, operational gaps, and optimisation opportunities through what-if scenario analysis.
International Airport Lab (IAL)

International Airport Lab (IAL)

The International Airport Lab (IAL) is a collaborative platform that unites the global aviation community to tackle shared airside challenges and accelerate the adoption of smart, scalable solutions. By bringing together technology developers, aircraft OEMs, airlines, airport operators, regulators, academia, and end-users, the Lab creates a space where critical problems are defined jointly, solutions are trialled in real operational environments, and interoperable systems are developed to work seamlessly across diverse airport settings.

Through ICAI’s coordination, IAL enables airports to address capacity constraints, operational bottlenecks, and efficiency gaps more effectively. It reduces the risk of technology adoption by fostering vendor-agnostic innovation, supporting proof-of-concept trials, and ensuring solutions are compatible with open architecture principles.

By pooling resources and expertise, the Lab empowers stakeholders to deliver tangible improvements—optimising ground operations, streamlining workflows, and enhancing overall passenger and aircraft flow.

The result is a stronger, more resilient airport ecosystem—better equipped to meet growing travel demand, operate more sustainably, and adapt quickly to evolving industry needs.
